Ultrasonic Testing Certificate of Completion

*Beginning in Spring term of 2016 this program is no longer accepting new students. Students who are currently declared in these programs should contact program director Bruce Emerson to develop an academic plan.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Ultrasonic Testing Certificate of Completion program is a self-directed, outcome-based program designed to prepare students for employment as a ultrasonic testing technician in a manufacturing environment. The program is offered exclusively at the Manufacturing and Applied Technology Center(MATC) at COCC's Redmond Campus. Departmental approval is required for enrollment at the Manufacturing and Applied Technology Center.

Flaw Detector 1Ultrasonic testing is based upon the physics of how high frequency sound passes through objects. Sound waves crossing potential flaws in a part travel at different rates than through regular material. Advanced equipment can measure those differences and display the results for a technician to review.

Building on a strong foundation of mathematics, science and practical skills, students learn about the application of ultrasonics to the field of Non Destructive Testing and Inspection. Students learn:

  • Setup, and calibration of ultrasonic test equipment.
  • Use of proper techniques and practices for straight beam and angle beam methods .
  • Advance techniques of ultrasonic inspection for non ferrous metals and composites.

All credits required to satisfy the requirements of this Certificate of Completion can also be applied towards the Associate of Applied Science degree in Non Destructive Testing and Inspection.

TRANSFER INFORMATION
This certificate/degree is designed for students planning to enter their chosen career upon graduation. Often only selected credits are considered transferrable to public or private baccalaureate institutions. Prior to starting any MATC program, students are advised to contact the institution they intend to transfer to and identify what credits may be transferable.
