Eddy Current Testing Certificate of Completion

*Beginning in Spring term of 2016this program is no longer accepting new students. Students who are currently declared in these programs should contact program director Bruce Emerson to develop an academic plan.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Eddy Current Testing Certificate of Completion program is a self-directed, outcome-based program designed to prepare students for employment as a eddy current testing technician in a manufacturing environment. The program is offered exclusively at the Manufacturing and Applied Technology Center (MATC) at COCC's Redmond Campus. Departmental approval is required for enrollment at the Manufacturing and Applied Technology Center.

Eddy currents are created when a magnetic field change induces current in a metallic object. The variations in how the current flows across a conductive sample can be measured by sensitive equipment. This data is then used by technicians to identify potential flaws in the material.

Building on a strong foundation of mathematics, science and practical skills, students learn about the application of eddy currents to the field of Non Destructive Testing and Inspection. Students learn:

  • Setup, and calibration of eddy current test equipment.Eddy Current 1
  • Use of proper techniques and practices to assess data and examine discontinuities in metallicobjects.
  • Advanced techniques of using multi-frequency eddy current tests to examine aircraft skins and other structures.

All credits required to satisfy the requirements of this Certificate of Completion can also be applied towards the Associate of Applied Science degree in Non Destructive Testing and Inspection.

TRANSFER INFORMATION
This certificate/degree is designed for students planning to enter their chosen career upon graduation. Often only selected credits are considered transferrable to public or private baccalaureate institutions. Prior to starting any MATC program, students are advised to contact the institution they intend to transfer to and identify what credits may be transferable.
