Academic Warning

Overview

Students are considered to be in good academic standing if they earn a 2.0 GPA or higher each term.

Students who do not meet this requirement will be placed on Academic Warning.

All students placed on Academic Warning will receive an email notification at their college email address the day after grades are processed.


Important Notes:

  • It is the student’s responsibility to monitor their academic standing and complete academic warning requirements in a timely manner.
  • Students without an assigned advisor may request one through CAP Services.
  • Students on Academic Warning may not self-advise.
  • Students may not change advisors while on Academic Warning.

Academic Warning Levels & Requirements

  • First Academic Warning

    Reason: GPA below 2.0 for one term
    Status: First Academic Warning

    Requirements:

    • Students are strongly encouraged to meet with their academic advisor before registration.
  • Second Academic Warning

    Reason: GPA below 2.0 for two consecutive terms
    Status: Second Academic Warning

    Important Notes:

    • If preregistered students fail to complete these steps:
      • Their registration will be voided.
      • A full tuition refund will be issued (bookstore expenses may not be refundable).
    • Students will be blocked from registration for one calendar year or until the worksheet is submitted.
  • Third Academic Warning

    Reason: GPA below 2.0 for three consecutive terms
    Status: Third Academic Warning

    Requirements:


    The Academic Reinstatement Committee will review completed petitions no later than Wednesday of Week 2 of the term.

    Committee Decisions

    1. Approve as Submitted – Student continues under the existing academic plan.

    2. Approve with Revisions – Student must follow an updated plan.

    3. Deny Petition – Student cannot continue or register; a full tuition refund will be issued (books not refundable).

    Students whose petitions are denied may:

    • Petition again the following term, or
    • Wait one calendar year to re-enroll (transcripts remain unchanged).


    All committee decisions are final
    unless new, relevant information was not previously submitted.

     

    Additional Requirements

    Students on Third Academic Warning may be required to participate in activities addressing factors that contributed to their academic challenges. Examples include:

    • Study skills or academic success workshops
    • Counseling for time or stress management
    • Career exploration or goal-setting sessions

    Failure to complete assigned activities may result in being dropped from classes. Students receiving financial aid may be required to repay a prorated portion per the Financial Aid Withdrawal Penalty Policy.


    If petition steps are not completed:

    • Registration is voided
    • Full tuition refund issued (books not refundable)
    • Registration blocked for one year or until petition approval
  • Fourth Academic Warning

    Reason: GPA below 2.0 for four consecutive terms
    Status: Fourth Academic Warning

    Repercussions:

    • Students are blocked from registering for all credit classes for one calendar year.
    • After one year, students may re-enroll and begin a new academic record as if no warnings existed.
    • Previous transcript grades remain unchanged.
