Steps to Barcelona

1 Review Program Information

 
 

Please review the Basic Information about the Study Abroad: Barcelona program and the associated costs for the trip. Please meet with your academic advisor to assess your interests and discuss how the courses offered can meet your graduation plans. 

Please fill and sign the Assumption of Risk form with your Advisor and submit to Sara Henson or Patrick Kennelly. Once submitted, please arrange a meeting with one of the Study Abroad Advisors to confirm course selection.

2 Explore Financial Aid and Scholarships

 
 

Confirm completion of your 2025-2026 FAFSA (available October 1, 2024). If you do not include the costs for Study Abroad in your original application, submit a correction as soon as possible. It is not likely that the changes to your FAFSA will increase grants or scholarships, but may improve options for student loans.

Scholarships

  • Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship awards up to $5,000 to students who are currently receiving a Pell Grant for their education at COCC. A survey of participants showed that one in three applicants receives an award, averaging $3,500. Deadline to apply is March 6, 2025.

  • BarcelonaSAE awards over $400,000 annually in grants and scholarships to help remove barriers students face to study abroad. Deadline for fall programs is June 15, 2025.

  • Moneygeek offers information on study abroad scholarships.

3 Complete Required Forms and Applications

 
 

Complete the Barcelona SAE Online Application:

  • Under "Program Type Applying For": Study Abroad
  • Under "Term Applying For": Fall
  • Under "Year Applying For": 2025
  • Under "Program Applying For": CFLP - Central Oregon Community College 2025: Fall Semester: 2025

Upon completion of the application, you will be given access to a Participant Portal, where you will be able to complete all the appropriate forms for the program (such as housing selection).  Information about payments, payment option and plans will be provided upon completion of the application.

Deadline to apply is May 30, 2025.

4 Program Payment

 
 

In order to secure your spot for Study Abroad Barcelona, please submit your program fees by these times:

  • June 1, 2025: Payment of 20% of program fee due to Barcelona SAE. 
  • August 1, 2025: Deadline payment of full program fee.

Barcelona SAE will send invoices 1 month prior to the due date. Students using financial aid to pay program fees will work with Barcelona SAE and COCC financial aid to set payment due dates.

5 Pre-Trip Orientation

 
 

The pre-trip orientation for Study Abroad Barcelona will provide essential information to ensure a smooth and successful experience. Topics will include travel logistics, health and safety guidelines, cultural expectations, and academic requirements. Students will also have the opportunity to meet fellow participants, ask questions and receive important materials to help prepare for study abroad.
