Veterans Work Study

“Earn while you learn” at COCC through the Veterans Work Study program. This opportunity allows eligible student veterans to receive a non-taxable hourly allowance in exchange for providing services that support fellow veterans on campus or in the community. The Veterans Affairs (VA) Work Study program offers a meaningful way to gain experience, stay connected with other veterans and earn extra income while pursuing your education.

Available Positions

  • Veterans Peer Adviser & Program Assistant

    Positions open for Fall 2025

    This position has two primary roles: Peer Adviser and Program Assistant. As a Peer Adviser, the role focuses on supporting new student veterans as they transition to college life, with training provided through the PAVE Program. Advisers help build community, raise awareness of veteran-specific resources and act as campus ambassadors. A portion of the role also supports COCC’s Veterans Program through outreach, event support and staffing the Veterans Center on the Bend campus.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Support student veterans as a PAVE Peer Adviser through outreach, mentorship and resource referrals
    • Maintain regular communication and interaction logs using the PAVE online system
    • Promote awareness of student veteran resources and assist in recruiting/training Peer Advisers
    • Assist with programming, events and content creation for newsletters and web updates
    • Staff the Veterans Center and provide front-line support for students
    • Help maintain student files, complete data entry and support administrative tasks as needed

  • Veterans Program Office Assistant

    This position is currently filled

    This position supports COCC’s Veterans Services through a combination of peer advising, program assistance and administrative support. Responsibilities include assisting student veterans, maintaining program records, staffing the Veterans Center and supporting outreach, events and communications. The role also contributes to peer mentorship efforts and helps increase awareness of campus and community resources available to veterans. Strong communication, attention to detail and a commitment to supporting a diverse student population are essential.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Provide support to student veterans through peer advising, outreach and resource referral
    • Assist with file maintenance, data entry and general office tasks
    • Staff the Veterans Center and help disseminate VA education benefit information
    • Support student events, workshops and the Student Veterans Club
    • Help develop content for newsletters, website updates and educational materials
