Sociology

Why study Sociology?

Exploring interactions between humans and society, COCC's Sociology discipline takes students on a journey of understanding and engagement with the world. Courses explore topics such as politics, social institutions, social justice, popular culture, and the environment. Sociology provides not only tools to unpack complex ideas, but also a welcoming atmosphere that supports learning and improving self-knowledge. Sociology also pairs well with many other academic pathways at COCC, including Business, History, Anthropology, Criminal Justice, Behavioral Health and Addiction Counseling, and Nursing. Coursework helps students develop and reinforce skills in social analysis and problem-solving. Classes are small, close-knit, and utilize team-based learning, with course options conveniently available at all four COCC campuses and online.

"Every instructor took time with their students and made their classes accessible and a productive learning environment."
