  • Pharmacy Technician

The Pharmacy Technician One-Year Certificate of Completion prepares students for employment in the pharmacy industry. Pharmacy technicians are skilled workers trained to work in a pharmacy and assist in all areas of the pharmacy not requiring a registered pharmacist's professional judgment. Practice areas for pharmacy technicians include retail, hospital, manufacturing, disease state management, mail order, and insurance claim specialists. Pharmacy technicians process prescriptions and medication orders and play an integral role in maintaining the pharmacy department.

Program courses are offered in an online and hybrid format. The program is accredited through ASHP/ACPE.

Unlike retail-only training positions, COCC's Pharmacy Technician Certificate emphasizes hospital knowledge and skills, crucial for passing the nationally recognized Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam. The program can be completed in as few as six months, and with the majority of coursework offered online, it is accessible to distance learners (in-person labs are conducted on weekends).

Some Central Oregon high schoolers are able to get an early start on the program with in-school options.

COCC’s Pharmacy Technician Certificate can also be a stepping stone to diverse career opportunities within the health care field.
