Faculty in the Business Administration program have rich backgrounds in higher education and possess real-world work experience with marketing agencies, tourism, retail business, large corporations, and international industries.

Full-time, tenure-track faculty members/advisers are featured below. Most COCC academic programs include a roster of adjunct and part-time instructors who add diverse expertise and personal experience to the learning environment.

Chair

James Cagney

Before joining COCC, James worked for years in the industry for Cisco Systems, Hewlett-Packard, Oracle, Fujitsu and NCR.  He brings a wealth of real-world experience to his classes.  James has served as a technical education consultant managing Cisco's CCNA content, a database consultant for Oracle, technical support manager for HP, a product planner for Fujitsu, and a Software Troubleshooter for NCR.

James earned an M.S. in Software Engineering from Northern Illinois University and an MBA from National University.  He has taught at California State University in Long Beach and National University.


 

Vaughan Briggs

From Microsoft to First Interstate Bank to Gary Fisher Bicycle Company, Vaughan has done it all in the business world. For the companies he's worked for, Vaughan has served in positions such as chief financial officer, executive manager, general manager, divisional controller, and SBA loan regional director. Vaughan is an experienced entrepreneur, founding and operating his own companies. With an MBA in finance and marketing from the University of California at Los Angeles and a master's degree in teaching from Eastern Oregon University, Vaughan's heart is with helping students. He teaches classes such as Personal Finance, Business Finance, and Co-op Work Experience. 


 

Wayne Yeatman

Wayne began his professional career in the hospitality industry, gaining experience in a variety of sectors including hotels, restaurants, contract food service, broad line distribution, healthcare, and retail grocery. After two decades in the industry, Wayne decided to use his expertise in a new way - becoming an educator in 2002. “I loved the transition into education,” shared Wayne. “One of my favorite parts is helping students discover all the career options open to them after they complete their certificate or degree.” Wayne holds an associate degree in Culinary Arts from Newbury College, a bachelor’s degree in Hotel Restaurant Management from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and a master’s degree in Business Administration from Texas State University. He has also earned the Certified Hospitality Education (CHE) credential from the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute.


 

jennifergould

Jennifer Gould

Jennifer began her career in hospitality and property management, and then owned her own business for 13 years, founding two non-profits in the process. Through this, she developed a love of the entrepreneurial spirit, and, wanting to help other business owners, she earned her M.B.A. in Leadership from the University of Washington, Bothell and a Certificate in Adaptive Leadership from Leadership Eastside in 2016. Upon graduation, she began working for the Washington Small Business Development Center (SBDC) and earned her Certified Business Advisor designation. She continued her career as the Center Director for Central Oregon Community College’s SBDC. In 2017, Jennifer was invited to teach at the UWB School of Business and subsequently taught a variety of business courses for several community colleges. She earned an Executive Certificate in Digital Transformation and Business Analytics from UW in 2020 and was the Oregon SBDC Network’s AI Lead in 2025. She began teaching in the business department at COCC in 2024 and was offered a position as a full-time tenure-track professor in 2025.


 

Michael Hanson

Michael Hansen

After completing his MBA from California State University-Sacramento, Michael was hired by the Sacramento Kings. During his 10 years with the professional basketball franchise, Michael served in a variety of roles including marketing director, broadcasting director, and creative services director. After moving to Bend 25 years ago, Michael used the graphic design skills learned while with the Kings and applied them to a job with The Printing Post in Redmond. He was then hired by Brooks Resources, a Bend-based real estate developer, where he spent 12 years in the marketing department promoting residential communities in Bend, Prineville, and Madras. Michael began teaching at COCC in 2010 and loves seeing students thrive in courses such as Marketing Principles, Business Communications, Branding, and Consumer Behavior.
