LibKey Nomad
We're offering tools from a company called LibKey to help you get to the journal articles you need more quickly.
How to Use It
Download the LibKey Nomad browser extension to use the Library while searching on websites you already use - like Wikipedia, PubMed, and many journal publisher sites (that you might find via Google), and more.
The Nomad browser extension works with Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Brave, Safari and Vivaldi.
After installing the add-on, search for "Central Oregon" to choose "Central Oregon Community College" as your organization to connect to.
When the "Access Provided by COCC" badge appears on a page, LibKey is working in the background to determine if we have subscription access to the content on the page. If not, you'll get a link to our Interlibrary Loan (ILL) request form. Most requested articles are delivered electronically in 4-48 hours. It's free!
On a page where LibKey is working*, you'll see immediate links to PDFs of the article or an "Access Options" link to get to the ILL request form.
The example here is from PubMed.
*Interested in the technical details? LibKey Nomad works when it detects properly formatted DOIs (Digital Object Identifiers) or PMIDs (PubMed IDs) on the page of major websites and scholarly publishers with which it has agreements to access programatically. It works primarily with scholarly journals and ebooks. So, it won't work on every website or with every resource.
Is this secure?
LibKey Nomad does not cache any user credentials or use your COCC account info to access the Library. Awareness of COCC Library resources is done via exchange of bibliographic metadata with the vendor. No user information is shared.
When using a LibKey Nomad link, you are simply forwarded to the usual COCC log-in services for authentication.
Is this Accessible?
Third Iron, the vendor that makes LibKey, reports being WCAG 2.1 Level AA compliant.
Need Help or Have Feedback?
If you have questions on how to use LibKey Nomad or want to provide feedback on what you think (good, bad or indifferent), we'd love to hear from you!
