NUR 103 - Nursing Assistant
Covers basic nursing assistant level one care and effective communication skills for clients in acute and long-term care facilities. Issues of confidentiality, client rights and role of the nursing assistant are discussed. Students are eligible to sit for the Oregon State Board of Nursing-sanctioned certified nursing assistant level one examination upon satisfactory performance of course outcomes and assessments; and completion of the 7 credit class, which exceeds the minimum 105 mandatory student contact hours required by OSBN : 65 hours of lecture/lab and 40 hours of clinical experience. Clinical experiences take place in acute and long-term care facilities. To enroll in the course, students must hold a current American Heart Association, BLS Provider CPR card, pass a criminal history check, pass a urine drug screen and meet immunization and TB test requirements.
Course Preparation
Professional clothing to be worn in class and at clinical. Mandatory uniform is a
scrub top in dark purple and black scrub pants. Close toed and closed heel shoes (eg
clogs or tennis shoes). During clinical, hair color should be a natural color and
shade; tatoos and piercings should be covered during clinical. Bring book to class
if face-to-face course. Students can register if they will be 18 prior to the start
of clincals. Contact the Nursing Department for specific details.

NUR 104 - CNA Level 2
As of July 1, 2025, the Oregon State Board of Nursing is consolidating CNA1 and CNA2 into a single certification, CNA. Because of this consolidation, COCC is sunsetting the NUR 104, Certified Nursing Assistant: Level 2 Class. Students completing the Nursing Assistant- One Year Certificate of Completion can take PHE 282, Foundations of Community Health Worker, instead.
