One of Roxie's favorite parts about teaching is connecting with students through engaging conversations in the classroom. "My goal in every class is to explain criminal justice in a way every student will understand," says the assistant professor, a member of COCC's faculty since 2009. "As we're gaining professional insight, we're also learning how to listen and interact with each other, even on topics where we disagree."
Invitations to speak at national and regional conferences, for both academic and law enforcement professionals, underscore her influence in the broader criminal justice community. As the administrator for the Central Oregon Reserve Police Academy, Roxie oversees the training of volunteer police officers, integrating academic expertise with real-world insights.
Using training from her Master of Public Administration with an emphasis on conflict resolution, Roxie is deeply involved in community education. She instructs and designs custom classes on de-escalation and conflict resolution for local employers. Her passion for empowering individuals extends to her work as a motivational keynote speaker in both the public and private sector.
