Anthropology
Why study Anthropology?
Exploring the history of humans past and present, the Anthropology program at COCC provides a fascinating, holistic look at the human experience, from evolution and behaviors to societies and connection to the environment. Across four branches of anthropological study (cultural, biological, archeology and linguistics*), students consider the complexities and diversities of the world while appreciating the interconnectedness that binds humankind — and how individual lives are shaped by global factors. Hands-on labs that include skeletal and cadaver examinations, field trips to local archeological sites, special focuses in areas like Ethnic Studies, and research partnerships all contribute to forging a well-rounded, enriching education.
"Getting to study real teaching tools like detailed hominid skull casts brought the material to life and made concepts click in a way that lectures alone never could. I’ve continued studying anthropology at a university level, but honestly, nothing compares to the quality of teaching and support I experienced at COCC. That department sets the bar."
*Cultural anthropology is the study of human beliefs and behaviors. Biological anthropology examines the biological evidence for human evolution. Archeology focuses on investigating and interpreting sites of past human activity. Linguistics anthropology looks at the role of language in society.
