G-32-12.2 Leave Without Pay (Non-FMLA/OFLA/, or Paid Leave Oregon)

Revised: 4/29/2024

Leave without pay (LWOP) is an issue collectively bargained. LWOP may be either long-term (in excess of five working days in any one pay period), or short-term (five working days or less in any one pay period). Conditions for granting of long-term LWOP may be found in the Collective Bargaining Agreements for faculty and classified staff, and the Administrator and Confidential Handbook.

Conditions for granting short-term LWOP can be found in the COCC General Procedure Manual HR-6-0 Leave Without Pay Procedures (LWOP).

Employees may only be placed on LWOP upon approval and once all accrued sick or vacation leave, as applicable, is exhausted. Employees who do not work their required FTE will use their sick or vacation leave, as applicable, to meet their FTE or follow the procedures for any protected leave for which they are eligible as per state and federal requirements. Leaves, of any duration, related to a qualifying circumstance under FMLA, OFLA, and/or Paid Leave Oregon must follow the procedure for such leaves.
