COCC Student Relief Fund

Students may encounter unexpected, temporary financial barriers resulting from an emergency situation. These situations may negatively impact the student's ability to complete course requirements and hinder academic progress. COCC Student Relief Fund is available to support students with unexpected emergency expenses that endanger the student's success at COCC. Funding is limited and based on availability. Complete applications are accepted on a term-basis, excluding summer term, and are based on current term enrollment at the following prorated amounts:

        • 12+ credits - up to $1,000 per term
        • 9-11 credits - up to $750 per term
        • 6-8 credits - up to $500 per term

Students can submit an application by logging into their Bobcat Portal: "Student" tab > "Financial Aid and Funding" > "Financial Aid".

Eligibility Requirements
  • Must have a completed ORSAA/FAFSA®. This includes the submission and complete review of any requested documentation.
  • Must be registered in a minimum of 6 credits at the time application is reviewed.
  • Must be meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements includes those appeals that have been approved.
  • Must be seeking a certificate or degree program at COCC and making academic progress toward that certificate/degree.
  • OSU dual admit students are not eligible to apply.


Approved Requests Will Be Based On
  • Appropriate documentation associated with the unexpected emergency expense and/or childcare assistance request
  • Documented financial need.
  • A detailed description of the financial emergency and how it is affecting your education.


Unexpected Emergency Situations

Examples of unexpected emergency situations and the required documentation, that is accepted by the committee may include:

  • Utilities and bills: Attach a current statement of balance with your portion of the expenses.
  • Emergency vehicle repair: Attach an estimate of type of repair and cost.
  • Rent and housing: Attach a balance statement and/or rental agreement with your portion of the expenses.
  • Other unexpected expenses: Documentation varies.

With the exception of childcare assistance, requests for expenses already paid will generally not be considered.



Childcare Assistance

This fund assists student with dependent children who incur out-of-pocket childcare expenses. For a complete application, attach copies of current monthly statements, canceled checks, or other proof of childcare expenses.

  • Students in need of childcare assistance are also eligible for emergency funds. Students may receive up to $1000 each term for these combines funds ($500 for childcare and $500 for other emergency needs).
  • Funding for childcare assistance is limited to $2000 per family within the academic year.


Tuition Assistance

Students may apply for the Student Relief Fund for tuition and fees assistance if the student is within one or two terms away from completing their degree at COCC and have been denied Financial Aid due to maximum credits limits. Students must attach a copy of their GradTracks with their application and be enrolled in the remaining classes for their degree. Will consider student registered in fewer than 6 if needed for degree completion. 



Process Overview
  • Completed applications are reviewed by a committee once per week.
  • Submit a complete application by Sunday at midnight to be reviewed the following week.
  • Students will be notified of the committee's decision via their COCC student email by Wednesday (if application was submitted by Sunday at midnight).
  • Approved amounts will appear in the financial aid offer section of the Bobcat Web Account as a COCC Foundation Scholarship.
  • Refunds will be processed through the normal student refund process by the Cashiers Office.  


 

Important Notes:

  • Except for childcare, requests for expenses already paid or to cover credit card debt or loans will generally be denied.
