TEAS-Test of Essential Academic Skills

COCC will administer the TEAS exam in-person only for the Fall 2026 application year. Reservations for COCC-administered TEAS exams will open December 1, 2025 at 9am. See details below for dates and reservation instructions.

ABOUT THE TEAS EXAM

The ATI Test for Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) is a required exam for students applying to COCC's Nursing Program. The purpose of the TEAS examination is to assess an examinee's overall academic preparedness for a health science program.  Every few years the TEAS content outline is reviewed to ensure that it is up to date for its intended use with nursing and allied health program applicant populations.

What should I do to prepare for the ATI TEAS?

To aid your preparation for the ATI TEAS, Version 7, ATI TEAS offers both free resources and resources for purchase.

Can I take the TEAS more than once?

You may take the exam up to two times the first year you are eligible and plan to apply to the program. After your initial application to the nursing program, you can take the exam once per application year going forward. If you applied last year or before, under the previous twice lifetime limit, you will have one exam per application year.

What are my options for completing the ATI TEAS exam?

There are three ways to take the TEAS exam: in person through COCC; in person through a PSI National Testing Center; or online through ATI (the organization that manages the TEAS exam). For details about each option, see below:

*This deadline includes requests for accommodations. Please see below for more information.

  • What if I have accommodated testing needs?

Use the following steps to arrange for an accommodated exam:

    1. Reserve a spot in your preferred exam session* with the COCC Cashiers by calling (541) 383-7229.
    2. Meet with the COCC Student Accessibility Services (SAS) staff to determine your accommodation eligibility for the TEAS test. Plan to do this well in advance of your preferred test session. Letters for accommodations are due 5 business days before your scheduled date.
    3. Submit the TEAS Accommodated Test Request form with an attached copy of your SAS Accommodations letter for the  TEAS exam (these documents must be submitted together) to placement@cocc.edu before the test reservation deadline (see table above). The form and letter must be submitted at the same time- they will not be accepted separately.
    4. Submit a request form and accommodation letter for each test session that you plan to schedule. For example, if you are taking the test twice, and want to use accommodations for both tests, please submit two separate forms and letters for each test session.

*Your scheduled test date is subject to change depending on your accommodations. Accommodations may be limited during certain times of the term.

  • What do I need to know about the day of the test?

A confirmation email with more details for the day of your exam will be sent to your COCC email about 1 week prior to your test date.

Students should arrive 10 minutes early for the test for check-in. Students arriving late to the test will not be allowed to test on this day and will not be refunded their test fee.

    • Students must bring a picture ID to the test session and will need to provide their COCC ID Number.
    • Pre-registration is required, testers will be checked against a roster as they enter the computer lab and only those on the roster will be allowed to enter.
    • The following items are permitted during the test:
      • Writing utensil – provided by the proctor and collected after the test
      • Scratch paper – provided by the proctor and collected and destroyed following the test
    • The following items are prohibited during the test:
      • Food or drink
      • Textbooks or reference books of any kind
      • Sunglasses, hats or a hood
      • Music (CD players, MP3 players, iPods, etc.)
      • Communication or electronic devices (cell phones, pagers, PDA’s, etc.)

Only those materials required for taking the test (i.e. pencils and scratch paper) are to remain on a student’s writing surface. Students participating in the proctored test session should leave personal items at home or in their car; otherwise they must leave overcoats, books, papers, calculators, tape recorders, large bags, backpacks, cell phones, etc at the front of the room with the proctor. They may obtain these items left with the proctor only as they exit the computer lab.

  • What if I am not admitted to COCC but would like to use the test for another school?

COCC administers the TEAS test to support applicants to COCC's Nursing program. Students must be admitted to COCC to take the test, so you may use our test but you also need to complete the COCC Admissions Application. You will be eligible to reserve an TEAS test appointment after your COCC application has been processed, usually within 3 business days. COCC does not provide TEAS test results to other institutions. If you plan to apply to another school, you can request your TEAS transcript be sent to another school through your ATI account.
