History
Why study History?
Connecting past with present through interactive, diverse studies, COCC’s History program brings history to life. With an extensive range of topics and content — from ancient societies and religious expansion to industrialization and the American West, plus many other periods and focuses — students can choose their own journey of study, starting with either 100-level or 200-level courses. Students shape new understandings and explore different cultures in discussions, presentations, and visits from inspiring guest authors and historians. History at COCC creates a supportive setting to question assumptions and set oneself in the given context, all while furthering tools of interpretation and analysis. Class offerings are conveniently available at all campuses, along with some remote and flexibile options.
"Remembering 'what happened when' is less important than understanding the heart of the story."
The History program hosts thought-provoking community events, from panel discussions to films, and also provides guest-lecturer expertise in the community, bringing current events and added engagement to the learning environment.
