With a modern fleet of instructional vehicles, open lab-style learning structure, and mentorship from experienced instructors, Automotive Technology at COCC provides the latest in industry credentialing for rewarding careers in the auto industry. Hydraulics, electrical systems, advanced software, robotics, and hands-on learning all merge in an education that leads to a wide variety of high-demand, high-paying careers. With the ability to specialize and upskill through stackable certificates, students can focus on areas that most interest them, including in COCC's nationally recognized emphasis on hybrid and electric vehicles. Learning takes place on both the Bend and Redmond campuses, as well as in partnership with the 509-J Jefferson County School District.

Program-Specific Information

In 2023, COCC was awarded a $3 million National Science Foundation grant to train and expand the electric vehicle technician workforce. COCC is one of just 15 two-year colleges nationwide developing EV technician programs under the Northwest Engineering and Vehicle Technology Exchange Next consortium.

From understanding onboard computer systems to mastering advanced driver-assistance systems, all COCC Automotive Technology students gain hands-on practice with leading brands such as Tesla, Subaru, Toyota, Ford, and Honda. Paid internships at reputable dealerships and shops provide real-world experience, with financial support available from some employers, all leading to excellent job prospects. 

The programs' open labs allow students to learn at their own speed, accommodating part-time and working students — ideal for those seeking a second career or exploring a new path. Students can also develop business and leadership skills through marketing, accounting, and HR courses within the Automotive Management AAS degree coursework.

Our programs are accredited by the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation, an arm of industry-certifying Automotive Service Excellence.
