In Solidarity with our AAPI Community
To our COCC Community,
COCC strongly condemns the rise in hate crimes against Asian Americans and Pacific
Islanders in the United States. We stand with our Asian and Pacific Islander students,
employees and community members. We do not ignore your pain. Your lives, your communities,
your joy matter. Our hearts and thoughts are with the communities and families impacted
by the recent shootings in Atlanta, and with all people who continue to experience
hate, discrimination, and violence.
As we've shared before, there is no place for racism at COCC. As a community college,
we can use education to promote empathy and learning from differences in people, ideas,
and cultures. For several weeks now, COCC’s Office of Diversity and Inclusion has
been planning events to celebrate the upcoming National Asian American and Pacific
Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month. Occurring each May, this month-long celebration honors
AAPI communities. The College will have more to share about these events soon. We
look forward to attending and hope to see many of you there.
Bobcats, please remember to take care of yourself, your families and loved ones, and
all those in our community. If you’re struggling, please reach out to COCC’s Personal Counseling services, or explore our Help for Students in Need resources. The College is here for you during these challenging times.
All our best,
Laurie Chesley Alicia Moore
