Why do courses have prerequisites?

Prerequisites are the courses you have to take, or the level of proficiency you must demonstrate, in order to be prepared to take a certain class. Course prerequisites help ensure that you are adequately prepared for your courses in both knowledge and skill.

How do I find out if my course has prerequisites?

You can view course prerequisites or corequisites in the Class Search. Click on the appropriate course number link to see if your course has prerequisites, corequisites, or recommended preparation.
