2019 Impact Report

COCC has participated in the Energy Trust of Oregon’s Strategic Energy Management (SEM) program monitoring 3 buildings since 2019. In 2020 the college saved almost 40,000 kWh and 2,000 therms in the Culinary Institute, Redmond Technology Education Center and Wikiup Residence Hall. In 2021, Cascades Hall was added to the portfolio. In 2022, Madras and Prineville campuses were added to the portfolio.

Power Management Policy 2021
All campus computers have a power setting on monitors that does not allow for screen savers.  The monitor goes blank or into a sleep mode instead of displaying a screen saver. This may seem like a small adjustment, but when you multiply it by 2500 devices, 365 days a year, it's big savings!  Big thank to the Information Technology Services Department!

Green Fee

Since 2006 students voted to charge $.25/credit green fee in order to become a participating institution in the Pacific Power Blue Sky program supporting renewable energy sources and COCC sponsored that program until 2024. Since then the needs have changed and we have created a Green Revolving Fund to prioritize incentivizing energy efficiency and renewable energy development, utilizing those funds directly on COCC campuses.

In 2020 Campus Services installed 6,630 LED interior lights on the Bend and Redmond campuses. Additionally, 217 LED parking/walkway lights were installed on the Bend and Prineville campuses. The total energy savings from this project alone is 484,115 kwh which is approximately $44,405 a year! Campus services is continually upgrading to more energy efficient equipment where feasible.
