Populus tremula - European aspen
European AspenPopulus tremula
Family: SALICACEAE
As one may deduce from the common name, this aspen occurs extensively through Europe (and in one location in Algeria) in cool temperate regions and in the southern portions of range it grows in the mountains. It is characterized by leaves with three distinct veins arising from a central point at the base and margins with rounded teeth. As with other aspens, the flowers are borne in spike-like catkins.
